There are a number of irratating errors in this book, but they're all addressed at <www.osborne.com/products/ 0072195371/0072195371_errata.doc>.
I've used this book, and the ExamCram2 9i 1Z0-007 book, and would recommend this book over the first, for two reasons. 1) The example schema (Scott) used thoughout the book is less (unnecessarily?) complex and is shipped with Oracle and is therefore much closer to what you're likely to encounter in the exam. 2) Although the Couchman book is much bigger, it's explanations seem much clearer - compare how smoothly (outer) joins and group functions are introduced in Couchman vs Examcram2.
That said, I like the examcram2 book, and it's likely to stay on my desk as a quick reference anyway...

This was my 'bible' for passing the Oracle 9i SQL exam which I did do. However the book contained numerous errors especially in describing the ansi vs. Oracle outer join syntax which it got the wrong way round. Just try the examples on page 115 Table 3.1! Whilst the example exam questions in both the book and the CD were useful they pailed in comparison to those on the exam. If you want to pass the exam buy the book but don't use it as your only reference when learning SQL!

Excellent way to prepare for the 9i SQL exam. Easy to read with focus on the important stuff in the exam.
This book was the only preparation aid I utilized (I do have some SQL experience, though) and it got my through the exam with a passmark of 88%. This is all there is to say about it.

The guide is pretty comprehensive and, if you already have a background in SQL then it should be enough to get you through the exam - after all it's not rocket science. Read more
