Review

"This is an excellently organized, self-directed program to assist sufferers of OCD. The examples of cognitive behavioral treatment components for adults and children with OCD are very comprehensive. Parents and family will find support and assistance in breaking the patterns of enabling, and therapists will be able to implement behavioral assignments that will decrease OCD suffering."
--Blanche Freund, adjunct professor of psychology and psychiatry at the University of Miami School of Medicine --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a neuro-biological disorder affecting one out of 40 adults. It is characterized by the presence of recurrent, intrusive thoughts, impulses, or images (obsessions) or repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions). 5.0 out of 5 stars A Godsend!, 14 April 2001

This review is from: The OCD Workbook: Your Guide to Breaking Free from Obsessive-complusive Disorder (Paperback)
For anyone who has suffered from and been in the grips of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, you will, as I have, find true relief in this book. It contains excellent step by step cognitive behavioural therapy processes that help you understand the underlying physiology behind the illness, and that allow you to realize that you can cope and live with OCD. For anyone who has suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder, I really cannot recommend this book any higher. It can help you live your life the way it should be lived. All the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just another book on OCD, 17 Feb 2010
By
Hd Van Tonder "Bookworm" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book as a novice therapist, wanting something to use that is practical and straight forward. The fact that the book is written from a patients' and clinicians' viewpoint add value to it. I especially like the fact that family involvement is discussed in detail and healthy and unhealthy support are highlighted. Reassurance which often colludes with OCD is also discussed in a gentle and compassionate way - including tips of how to reduce unhealthy ways of support. Also valuable is the chapter on mindfulness. It is one of the few books discussing religious scruples and choosing the right therapist. I would recommend it for therapists and clients.
