Product Description

From the first symptoms of serious unrest - the Divis Street riots of 1964 - to the tortuous political manoeuvrings culminating in the 2003 Assembly elections, the book traces the reality of life in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.

It details the motivation behind the IRA 'armed struggle', the Civil Rights movement, the murder campaigns of various loyalist terror groups, the major incidents of violence and the response of the British security forces and the justice system.

It describes what it was like to live with bombs, army searches in the dead of night, death threats to politicians, activists and others. A detailed account of the political and personal toll of the Northern Ireland conflict.

Revised and updated in 2007.

A suberb sysopsis of the extremely complicated situation in Northern Ireland. This "pocket history" is a perfect introduction to the N. Ireland situation for the uninitiated and an excellent quick reference book for those who consider themselves somewhat educated in the subject matter. This book is easy to follow and takes the reader quickly throught all the major incidents, turning points and milestones of this 40 year period of Irish history. Although this book is a summary, the attention to detail and the insight given by the author, gives the reader a broad understanding of the reasons behind the conflict and how all sides have interacted over the years to bring Northern Ireland to the stage it is at today.

A book that anyone interested in Northern Ireland must own!
