Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Before OST, People Under the Stairs (Thes One and Double K) have been busy establishing themselves as one of the most consistent crews operating outta the Left Coast. Their two LPs to date, The Next Step and Question in the Form of an Answer have seen them pioneer a back-to-basics approach to rap music, which somehow also manages to feel progressive. OST continues this idiosyncratic and successful approach, bringing deftly constructed tracks overlaid with engaging rhymes and the duo's recognisable and accessible delivery. The pair are masters at digging up dusty old funk loops, which helps give their music an immediate, old-school feel, though their diversity here is impressive as insouciant head-nods such as "Keepin It Live" and "Acid Raindrops" merge with block party jams ("Hang Loose"), Jamaican reggae flavours (check the title track) and a few serious moments. It's ain't rocket science, but it sho' is funky.--Paul Sullivan

I don't often make sweeping statements about music, but this is undoubtedly one the finest albums released this side of the millenium, and absolutely one of the best hip hop albums ever put down. As previous reviews have pointed out, this is not "groundbreaking", "experiemental" hip hop - and that's quite the point. PUTS are very much of the philosophy that if it ain't broke, don't f*** with it. These are two guys who grew up on Hip Hop when that was something to be proud of, and their sound is very much in the style of a lot of golden age hip hop. With all the garbage that passes for hip hop these days, most real heads have given up hope. DON'T! This is catchy, intelligent and original, but with a classic early 90's flavour that will never die as long as real hip hoppers keep making - and buying music like this. If hip hop has a future, it lives under the stairs.

Original Soundtrack has to be one of the best albums a true hiphop head could wish for. And i say this purely because: PUTS keep hip hop what its meant to be...and its flawless. From the highly underrated producing, and Mc'ing that couldn't fit better with the music, People Under The Stairs' OST is an album which shouldnt be slept on. Every track on this can be played somewhere some time and be loved; there are no weak tracks. Its the essence, the roots... something i missed and mourned, which they will tell you themeselves was their intended aim. Ignore the petty criticism of this album, and for what it is enjoy 80 mintues worth of jazzy, laid back HipHop. Also, Pick up "The next step" by PUTS and "A Question in the form of an answer".

You gots to love it...this is the realness

like many hip-hop acts, People Under The Stairs come from the glamorous LA. but don't expect anything along the Dr.Dre/Snoop Dogg/west-side gangster lines. this is what hip-hop should be about; getting drunk, getting high, getting down, getting up and just having a good time. PUTS tunes are exceptionally catchy without ever being irritating. they are delightfully commercial while still retaining a raw, humble, pure feel. designed for the warmer climbs of LA, this is hip-hop to unwind and party to. smile-inducing, this duo show to the majority of LA-rappers what their music is tragically missing. their rhymes are tight, and their beats are just magic. a definite must-buy for all true hip-hop fans.
