Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The new O&O RescueBox V4 is THE data recovery bundle for every operation on every system. It is immediately bootable from CD and contains its own independent operating system. With the help of O&O DiskRecovery V4, O&O FormatRecovery V4 and O&O UnErase V4, the O&O RescueBox can recover files from nearly every type of data storage media. Using the on screen assistant, recovery is made easy and files you thought were lost can quickly be at your disposal again.

O&O DiskRecovery V4 can still help recover data even when things seem hopeless. By means of the exclusive O&O DeepScan technology, over 300 file types can be recognized and recovered, even those most severely damaged. You can integrate unsupported file types and also combine different scanning methods.

O&O FormatRecovery V4 enables the recovery of deleted or formatted partitions or hard disks to their pre-deletion form. File and directory structures are likewise restored. O&O FormatRecovery V4 takes the selected directory structure, file name and file information and stores it on another storage media, enabling a straight forward search to be carried out based on the directory and file names.

Whether your files were deleted through a DOS prompt or from inside Windows Explorer, with or without their being sent to the recycle bin, O&O UnErase V4 will recover the deleted files and restore all intact data. A simple and intuitive user interface similar to that of Windows Explorer tops off the experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rescue Box , 8 May 2006
This set of 3 covers everything. I really like the way O&O package and design their products and this one is no exception. It boots from cd for a start and then talks you all the way through, even telling you the best product to get your deleted stuff back. As it's based on Windows it's real easy to use. Been having major problems with wife and child hitting the delete button and this box did indeed rescue me (or my family ;). I thought my photos were gone as it's been so long but that doesn't make any difference with this software. Excellent stuff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware the limitations, 12 Jul 2007
By Shed Roof (London) - See all my reviews
Whilst the software is easy enough to use, there are a number of limitations that you come across when using the software. Whilst over 300 programs can be found, most of these will be way beyond the average home PC user's experience.
Having suffered a catastrophic system failure just before my regular (well, quarterly) backup, I only needed to find a hundred or so image files.
The program however, finds all images on your hard drive, including deleted temporary ones, autosaves etc., and can't preview all images it finds. Having a large photography portfolio, it found over 6,000 jpeg's and 5,000 .bmp's, which I tried to export to my external hard drive to review separately. This is where you find the problem. The home user version restricts the number of files you can export to 100 (each selected by a separate mouse click), and you then have to go back to a pre-saved search, choose another hundred and so on. By the time you have exported a couple of hundred, your mouse-clicking finger is ready to drop off and your PC gets slower and slower. Whilst you would expect to only select the ones you want, you cannot see some preview images so you have to export those and open them in another program to see if it is the image you want.
Having spoken to O&O, they said that most home users are satisfied with the 100 file capacity, and offered me the upgrade at £129+VAT to the Administrator version which has no cap.
If you want to try to recover files of a type that you have lots of, this program will get there, but perhaps not as efficiently as other programs out there.
