Product Description

Product Description

If you are serious about weight training, you have probably experienced the ''plateau phenomenon.'' You train harder, you consume extra protein in your diet, but you just don't get the strength and power gains that you want. For the last ten years sports nutrition has focused on what to eat. The latest research from leading sports science labs now shows that when you eat may be even more important. Nutrient Timing adds the missing dimension to sports nutrition, the dimension of time. By timing specific nutrition to your muscle's 24-hour growth cycle, you can activate your body's natural anabolic agents to increase muscle growth and gain greater muscle mass than you ever thought possible. Nutrient Timing is the biggest advance in sports nutrition in over a decade.....John Ivy is Chair and Margie Gurley Seay Centennial Professor in the Department of Kinesiology Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Maryland and his postdoctoral training in physiology and biochemistry from Washington University School of Medicine. He has published over 150 research papers on the effects of nutrition on physical performance and exercise recovery. He is a Fellow and former Ambassador for the American College of Sports Medicine and Fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Its easy to go to the gym and hit the weights but without planning, all the hard work put-in could be wasted.
'Nutrient Timing' gives specific advice about what supplements and vitamins have given 'proven' benefit in workout performance and post-workout recovery. Also what supplements to avoid because they have shown to have 'no' real benefit. The book gives advice about the 'timing' of foods (protein/carb drinks)prior to/during/after workout to maximise performance and recovery.
To complete the 'planning' I highly recommend these books:
'The Metabolic Typing' Diet by William Wolcott....because this book gives advice about how to find the optimum balance of Protein/carbs/fats for your every day consumption of whole foods.
'Static Contraction Training' by John Little and 'Max Contraction Training' by John Little....because these revolutionary books give brilliant advice about exercises that will give you immediate muscle growth.Gel all this info together and look forward to a great body!!

I may be on my own here but although the information contained in this book was very well written, I experienced frustration in trudging through all of the technical information and data to find out what really mattered to me - what to eat/supplement before/during and after my workout.

Also the meal/supplementation plan was laid out for a morning session so i had to start doing my own timings for someone who works out after work.

That said, would still recommend but probably nhot for someone who, like me has little patience!

Great book, very thorough in all aspects. Repeats itself and could be smaller but gets the point across. Not what to eat but when, recommended if your a keen bodybuilder.
