Product Description

Product Description

A salesperson sizing up a customer. A manager trying to motivate an employee. A teacher attempting to make a point with a student. Should they joke around? Stick to the facts? Make small talk? Cut to the chase? How do they "read" the other person quickly to discover what strategy is best? Now, Paul Tieger and Barbara Barron-Tieger at last provide the answers. Drawing on the same scientifically validated Personality Type model that most Fortune 500 companies use, they show just how easy it is to identify key personality characteristics through a person's appearance, vocabulary, body language, occupation, education, and interests. Filled with real-life examples and easy-to-follow directions, The Art of Speed-Reading People explains what motivates and drives each different type -- and what communication strategies will be most successful. For salespeople, managers, teachers, and anyone else who has to deal with the human factor at work -- and who doesn't? -- here is the business how -to book of the year.

From the Author

we're grateful and inspired to read the reader's comments
It is more meaningful to me, and to my partner Paul, than we can express to read the comments written by readers of our book, NURTURE BY NATURE. As parents we know how frustrating, exciting, rewarding, and challenging it is to try each day to be a good parent. Whatever helps us to better understand and nurture our children is worthy of consideration. We know that understanding our children's types really does help us love, honor, respect, protect, encourage, inspire, and guide them so they can grow into the people they were meant to be. As we nurture our children by their natures, we shape a generation of more tolerant, respectful, responsible, and loving people. It's an honor and a priviledge to share their lives for these short years. Enjoy every minute of this incredible journey called parenting. And thanks for reading our book!

My wife and myself have previously taken a Myers Briggs personality type course and found it most rewarding.(Take one if you haven't already!)

Years on and with two daughters under ten, we turned to this book to see if it could tell us something new. It certainly did! It not only confirmed our daughters' 'Types' but it gave us some wonderful insights into their unique personalities. We found that my wife's Type is directly opposite to our younger daughter's Type. It explained to her why she always has such a 'battle' with her. It was such an eye-opener, there were tears in our eyes as as we realised the daily 'battles' with her were just our daughter being herself.

It is no exaggeration to say that this book has transformed our relationships with our daughters.

This book is very well written and goes through various stages for each type:- 0-4, 5-10 and 11-16, with real life examples. The 'pointers' and summaries are practical and you'll find yourself returning to them for nurturing reference.

If you have taken Myers Briggs and have children then you owe it to them to buy this book. Not only will it help you understand your children, it will help you nurture them to meet their true potential. It will also provide new insights into your childhood as your read your own type.

I plan to give it to our daughters to read as they hit the 'searching' teenage years.Only wish I'd read it as I was growing up!

This book has been a very big help for my wife and I. With the easy to follow guidelines, we've been able to understand our son much better. The book lists the different personality types as they age from babies to teenagers. It has even helped me understand my childhood and the troubles I had as a teenager. If only I had known my personality type then. Do yourself and your kids a huge favor, BUY THIS BOOK!

After reading Nurture by Nature, I recommended it to every parent with whom I came in contact. I was amazed at the accuracy of the profiles of each one of my children. My husband and I spent more time laughing and wondering if the authors had somehow snuck in and observed our family! I came away from the book with a deeper understanding of type and the recognition that each one of us is wired in a different way, and each type has something to contribute to this world. There is always a danger in identifiying type and pigeon holing children, but used correctly, this book is an extraordinarily valuable tool in parenting and understanding the children in one's life.

The Myers-Brigg Personality Indicator was totally new to me and lead me to all sorts of studies about personality typing. This book gives an excellent overview of type for a novice. I recommend it highly and encourage readers who finish this book to explore Enneagram personality studies to gain an understanding that goes even deeper than the MBTI. It's all so fascinating for this ENFP!
