An excellent resource for all wanting to better understand the NVQ course in Health & Social Care. Although this is specific to the NVQ2 it is also very useful and adaptable for using with the NVQ3.
Easy to understand and in basic English without using too much of the usual jargon.
Excellent diagrams.
Great value for money.

This is an absolute excellent book for care workers in nursing and residential settings, written by an experienced registered nurse. It covers all aspects of personal, social and psychological care and has proved over and over to be a really useful tool for people working towards NVQ qualifications.

Clear and relevant. This book gives you the foundations you need to understand the wide range of issues that are important on a day to day practical basis when caring for elderly folks.

Recommended for anyone thinking to enter care work in general. You get guidance on mobility issues, aids, communication and many other of the necessary basics of this line of work.

My own niggle was the "10% neuromyth" was perpetuated in the mobility section (P179). Also the idea that a damaged area cannot recover isn't strictly true either. However-that's just a very small thing as I happened to be studying neuroscience as a hobby! :).

The writing style is aimed at a target audience who need practical understand and quickly. It does this job well. There are plenty of handy diagrams and charts that illustrate various points and necessary information for care (Braden scale, Waterlow, Bristol stool etc).

I would add Enriched Care Planning for People with Dementia: A Good Practice Guide for Delivering Person-centred Care (Bradford Dementia Group Good Practice Guides) as a necessary second book to go with this if your intended environment is likely to include folks with varying forms of dementia.
