There are some lovely designs in this book. The penguin toy is great and quick to knit up (p 70).
I'm also knitting the kaleidoscope throw (p48), the instructions for this are wrong. Fortunately I realised this before knitting too far and having to undo any squares. The pattern tells you to knit 49 squares in 7 different colour ways, following the chart on p 51, and to make up that half of these squares will be rotated through 180 degrees. If you do this you won't get the diamond pattern as shown in the photo. You need to knit half the squares as a mirror image of the chart on p 51 (there is a cushion pattern chart on p 57, if you split this into individual squares and use this as a guide you'll get the squares needed for the throw).
I also found that the pattern advised buying loads more yarn than I have used. Admittedly it isn't exactly the yarn stated, but the ladies in the knitting department advised it was a good match, and it has knitted up well. The pattern advised buying 4 balls of each colour, I have nearly finished knitting all the squares and have only just started the second ball of each colour, making the blanket cost twice as much as was really necessary.
However, having worked out how the pattern should be knitted the finished throw is going to look great. But, I will be very sure to check, as far as possible, any other patterns I knit up from this book before I start.
