This book is a must for any nurse who trained in the 50s or 60s.
Loved it. So many memories came flooding back.
I read it in one afternoon as I couldn`t put it down.

'nurse'! 'yes sister?' I trained to be a nurse in 1958. Enjoyed the read as I remember it well, the long hours, the discipline, which I now realise was so important and many happy /sad times.

My correct name is Mrs E A McPhee

To say that this book is a short account of the author's nurse-training is an understatement. 65 pages divided between 10 chapters. What a disappointment from someone with such a wealth of nursing experience. The content was factual and interesting but devoid of any real emotion. It could and should have been so much more. I would have liked the author to have shared more of her learning experiences with examples of what/how she had learnt from her patients and peers. The author must have a multitude of stories that are funny, sad, thought-provoking, up-lifting etc that would have brought the text alive and given it some emotion. What a missed opportunity!

This was a much shorter book than I'd anticipated. It was worth reading for anyone interested in nursing history, but disappointing in it's shortness and as another reviewer said, a missed opportunity to include so much more. There are other books with much more detail which I'll remember for longer than this one.
