Reviews

All 12 episodes from the third season of the darkly comic hospital drama starring Edie Falco as tough, outspoken New York nurse Jackie Peyton. In this season, Jackie is given the cold shoulder by O'Hara (Eve Best); new nurse Kelly Slater (Gbenga Akinnagbe) charms all the staff, bar Jackie; and suspicions are raised when drugs from the Oncology Department go missing. The episodes are: 'Game On', 'Enough Rope', 'Play Me', 'Mitten', 'Rat Falls', 'Orchids and Salami', 'The Astonishing', 'Have You Met Ms. Jones?', 'F**k the Lemurs', 'Batting Practice' and '...Deaf Blind Tumor Pee-Test'.

I thoroughly enjoyed seasons 1 and 2, but I'm sorry to say season 3 'lost the plot'~ literally!

The thin storylines for Gloria Acolitis, Coop and Zoe (all great actors) made their presence almost unnecessary. Even (the wonderful) Eve Best's character did little apart from wander around the emergency unit, give Jackie a few 'heart to heart' talks, and buy a house, of which we did not see the inside, nor was it used in the plot.

Of course Edie Falco is a joy to watch, but she needs to get in some new WRITERS if ths is going to go UP hill again. Looking at details of the (still on-air) season 4 they have tried to solve it by bringing in 'guest stars'.. VERY bad move, unless the scripts get better as well.

We watched 'The Big C' with Laura Linney alternately with editions of 'Nurse Jackie'; it's 100% better, great (quirky) cast, incredible scripts, interwoven, tight sad-funny storylines, no wonder she won awards for it.

The Big C - Season 1 [DVD] [2011]

At the end of season 2 Jackie's duplicity has been uncovered by her husband and best friend. The money she borrowed from O'Hara has been used to buy drugs, and her husband knows about the post office box and the pharmacists' bills. SPOILER - In season 3 Jackie manages to twist the truth to get out of trouble again and convinces her husband that the bills were all for routine kids medicines. She makes up with O'Hara. However nothing much happens. There is a flash of the old Jackie when she defends a put upon waitress from a jerk in a restaurant. But it does not last. I think that this show may have been a one trick pony and unless it can come up with something more, it might as well pack up its tent.

One of the best American dramas ever made. (With the exception to Friends of course)

If you are already a Nurse Jackie fan, series 3 is great, although not as good as the first 2 series, its funny and worth adding to your collection non the less.
