Reviews

Starring Anna Neagle and directed by Herbert Wilcox, this is the gripping true story of an English nurse caught up in the horrors of the First World War. Working tirelessly to save lives in a Brussels hospital, Edith Cavell becomes sympathetic to the plight of the Belgians. So appalled is she by the German conquerors that she becomes involved with a secret underground resistance movement.

Nurse Cavell was only a name which I remember we went past when I was in London with my parents when he was going to the memorial service of the Boer War Association. When I saw this available I thought I would like to have this as I have a great admiration of the Belgian people and those that helped them. I have many friends who are Belgians and some of the tales they have told me are horrific. When I was in Liege I visited a cast and saw all the memorials of the people that had been shot by the Germans

Having heard of the execution of Nurse Cavell this filled me in with very good details and reason for an unnecessary death.

The film is portraying a brave British woman from the First World War. Who risks all working behind enemy lines, to rescue soldiers.
Excellent film in B/W . Dated of course. But heroic.!!!!
She should be on a pedestal with Florence Nightingale! !!!!

Having just read very good book about Edith Cavell I wanted to see this old film with Anna Neagle . It captures the atmosphere of the time very well and was well acted by the supporting cast. The film does not touch upon her early life at all.

Tragic but selfless story , every school should show this before any more of our moral guidelines are swept away by the PC brigade of do gooders .

A lovely 'old time' film, very enjoyable and informative, especially if you are an Anna Neagle fan.
