The film follows the story of a down on his luck snooker hustler.
Mel Smith a local (bookie)seeks his chance to make a few quid out of (flash)Bob Geldof.By becoming his manager.
Flash (BG)is bang in trouble, the police are looking for a result from him,
With no rent money or money to live on flash turns pro.
And he has to choose between his own dream of winning the world championship,
or making his manager a lot of money.
The cast is top draw in this film.
And the film is very good indeed Number One [DVD]

A great 80s film now available on DVD starring Bob Geldof. Bob stars as a rising snooker superstar advised by his corrupt manager. The cast list is really impressive making it a hard hitting good British movie. This DVD is really worth a look and a good addition to your collection.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a recent film, just because the DVD was released in Jan '06. This has a frighteningly young Bob Geldof, in a part that must have killed his acting ambitions (at least Africa can be grateful). Sadly his wooden performance isn't saved by the plot which is ridiculously implausible (snooker hall "bum" enters world championship) or performances by his co-stars as Ray Winstone, Phil Daniels etc... are reduced to bit parts. It is not intentionally funny, and you have to laugh at it or cry that you've wasted your cash. If you're over 35 then you may get a bit nostalgic for the 80's, but it just made me sad I wasn't a teenager again! Truly awful....
