4.0 out of 5 stars get it if you can 25 Oct 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Three great tracks and the video for Numb wrapped up in a Sam Taylor-Wood sleeve. Now I am the first to admit that I didn't like Numb when I heard it on the Fundamental album but you essentially get that version here on the video. It's heavy, over-orchestrated and rather depressing. What a surprise then to find how good the demo version presented on this CD release is. It's a moody piece of electronica with low synth hums and digital cymbal crashes prowling from speaker to speaker over a simplified piano refrain, highlighting a delicate vocal. The extra two tracks are top notch too. Party Song is upbeat and perkily references good-time disco hits from KC & the Sunshine band and the like. Bright Young Things takes us back to parties that evoke Neil's love of 20s sophistication and Noel Coward (see Being Boring), surrounded by "bright young things...flying on chemical wings" over a superior pulsing electro arrangement. One of their very best singles of recent years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Numb = very good 29 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
This is the 3rd single from there new album. I think this should make top 5 no problem, but the way the charts are these days it will just make the top 20. The reason's for this they have allowed downloads as part of the chart possition. This is not what most people will want to download these day's. The Pet Shop Boys are not as popular as robbie, pink etc.

They don't get as much radio play for what ever reason either, which for me is all wrong because songs like these last the test of time, just like most of PSB track.

So dont be a mug and loose out on having this cd as part of youre collection. In other words BUY IT.

A s star rating for a 5 star song.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SONG POOR SINGLE 23 Oct 2006
Format:Audio CD
Lately the boys have been suffering from poor management, poor promotion and poor decisions. FUNDAMENTAL is a great album with some great tracks including NUMB yet this is the 2nd single they should never have been. INTEGRAL would have ben better, SODOM even more so. Saying that, NUMB is a beautiful track reministant of their 1990 album but as a single it has peaked at No 23, sad.
