If you're looking for something to play in the background at a party, then this ones not for you; if you're looking for a good sample of unusual movie-soundtracky electronica from 70s, then this could be it. Luke Vibert (aka Wagon Christ) is certainly never dull, and this selection from the Chappell, PIL, Southern and iM libraries reflects his taste, which is interesting in itself: there's at least one track here (Pots and Pans by A.King/J.Mathews) which he's 'reinterpreted' in his own work. Overall, I'd say its the sort of thing you're not going to play often, though DJs of a certain persuasion may enjoy throwing in a track or two just to flummox the crowd. Its an 'ideas album' more than anything, and most of the tracks are short enough to give it a bit of a sampler feel. Basically, if you are into the funkier end of electronica, or follow what Luke Vibert gets up to with interest, I'd say go for it. Otherwise probably not.

With the music in the 21st Century grinding to a creative halt, this stuff recorded over 30 years ago is growing more relative. Most of this stuff rocks along to a jolty drum track, while others move along in spacey Moog heaven. "Cleopatra" by Georges Teparino is just an incredible up-rocking tune, surely Isaac Hayes must've heard this before Shaft? The sound quality is excellent, even though it appears to be dubbed from vinyl. Buy it, give it to your children in 40 years time, and I guarantee it will still sound futuristic and fresh.
