5.0 out of 5 stars All killer no filler! 21 Jun 2001
By Matthew
Format:Audio CD
The first Nuggets box set was hailed by many as the best compilation ever released, so the follow up had to be amazing and it is. This time Rhino have gathered together all the essential British tracks from the era and some obscure European gems for the collection. Anyone who's ever heard and loved the Rubble collection series from Bam Caruso will be as horrified as me by the recently released CD compilations called the 'Best of Rubble'. The excellent packaging from the original issues is missing and so are most of the best tracks. Since the original Rubbles are deleted on CD, these horrible offensive items were the only way you could easily get the more obscure British output this sort of material (par the excellent Psychedelic Scene from Decca) unless you bought vinyl. This wonderfully compiled box set comprises the best tracks from the Chocolate Soup compilation, which is also deleted on CD, together with some carefully selected freakbeat and psych classics from that era. Some of the groups featured are quite famous, such as The Small Faces, The Move, Marmalade, The Troggs, Them, The Creation, (and Marc Bolan and David Bowie before stardom feature), etc. whilst some artists are lesser known, The Zipps, Factory, Os Mutants, etc., but it's all essential stuff. It comes in tripped out packaging with a very informative book that provides extensive information on each track. Very carefully put together and it's all killer no filler, just buy it, man!

5.0 out of 5 stars Treasure trove 8 July 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This ain't cheap, but well worth the price. Unless you're a real 60s anorak, you probably won't have heard of 75% of these acts. Full marks to the compilers for rescuing many of these names from obscurity - especially the ultra-collectable and highly sought-after Acid Gallery 1969 single 'Dance Around The Maypole' (a song written by Move main man Roy Wood and recorded by the group who later evolved into 1970 chart-toppers Christie). The booklet is first class, and the individual CD designs - mirroring the contemporary Deram, Reaction, Transatlantic and Immediate record labels - are great too.
