Another fantastic album from Vast ! In terms of musical style it definitely hovers somewhere between the two previous albums, borrowing the best elements of both, and sounding the most accesible because of it; there's a good few tunes with nice bassy swells and riffs that give the same powerful sound as a lot of tracks on the first album had, although it seems a bit more controlled this time. None of the new tracks ever seem to get TOO noisy (which is a good thing, much as I love the first album), but as usual there's also a few more melodic and more chilled out numbers too. It's almost as if Jon Crosby's sticking with the "easier to listen to" sound that he went for on the second album, whilst retaining the seriousness of the first album (although not to the extent of the dark side a lot of it had). That might make it sound like a middle-of-the-road album, but I think it succeeds in being a good all-round crowd pleaser, without stretching itself too far in any one direction (especially not commercial, thank god).
