Schatz's use of lighting and composition is breathtaking. It is a relief to see real people in this collection of nudes, women with curves and surprisingly perfect bodies, untouched by piercings or tattoos. His influences are apparent, you can see more than a touch of Imogen Cunningham and Robert Mapplethorpe among other artists whom he has obviously studied. A must have for anyone interested in perfectly taken images of the body.

Hooray, Howard is back with a luscious, gorgeous, magnificent book of nudes that is both dynamic and sensual. This large format book is the ideal size to aptly display the sumptuous geometry of the human form. For those familiar with Schatz other books this is reminiscent of "Passion and Line" with overtones of "Water Dance"; the former being my personal all time favorite book of photography. "Nude Body Nude", while filled with astute studies of the human form, does have its lighter side too--a few quirky images designed to throw the viewer off guard. I panned his last book but I love this one. Don't buy it as a gift, buy it for yourself.

Beauty To The Beholder

This large format book is filled with images that are erotic, funny, abstract and even thought provoking. Having read the negative reviews, I think that the reviewrs had misplaced expectations, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and opinions will differ.
Nude Body Nude is a book that plays with the human form in many creative ways. To tackle such a project must be daunting; it must be challenging to give the human form a creative approach that is fresh. Many of the photographer's efforts appealed to me more than others. But, for me, this book succeeded far more than it failed.

Howard Schatz' "Nude Body Nude" is a testament to the beauty of the human form. He masterfully uses his camera to capture the grace and spirit of all that is beautiful. From photos of black's in black & white to a full figured female, Mr. Schatz' art is elevated far above other voyeuristic attempts in this medium. Take a look and be inspired.
