I have used Paperport for a very long time with a great deal of success but when I had to upgrade to windows 7, the back up from Nuance was almost nil, so with all the details of my paperport 11 saved on my drive it was either upgrade or lose the data. there are still a number of items need fixing. When I use the print to Paperport command the next time I want to print from word or anything else I click print and it uses Paperport as the default even if you do change it back to word. As the various editions of Paperport arrived they improved but with Paperport14 it is too complicated I think they thought of how to make the program as slick as possible and not of the end user which is a shame. I also believe that there are a number of bugs in the program which do need to be put right one is the scan feature I found it difficult to configure it.

I am a long time user of PaperPort, going way back in the past. Each new version, up to and including PaperPort 9, was an improvement. Then, along with others (with many comments in agreement on the web) I found PaperPort versions 10, 11 and 12 so full of bugs that they were practically unusable. So I plodded on with PaperPort 9. This was a pain as version 9 will not run on Windows Vista or 7 - in order to use it I had to run Windows XP in virtual mode on my Windows 7 PC. In the meantime I tried several other scanning programs, but found nothing as good.
Now at last version 14 seems to have restored PaperPort to what it previously was - the best scanning software available, at least for private use. I have found that ver. 14 performs flawlessly, without any crashes. I do agree with the previous reviewer that it is a little overcomplicated - it takes a bit of learning/familiarisation. But it is worth the effort. This has always been one of the most important utilities on my computer, and version 14 puts it right back up there.
Now at last version 14 seems to have restored PaperPort to what it previously was - the best scanning software available, at least for private use. I have found that ver. 14 performs flawlessly, without any crashes. I do agree with the previous reviewer that it is a little overcomplicated - it takes a bit of learning/familiarisation. But it is worth the effort. This has always been one of the most important utilities on my computer, and version 14 puts it right back up there.

First of all let me say how good Nuance's help desk is!
I had two problems with this product, one an install fault on Windows 7 - Solved by the help desk.
The second was me being silly, again solved by the help desk. They even phoned me, fantastic service.
I had previously owned PaperPort but had not got round to using it.
I have now got into it (version 14.1) & It works well.
I recomend getting a good (with document feed) scanner. I purchased the Epson GT-1500, which is also very good.
Te combination makes opening the post almost a pleasure.
I'm still getting into all the features, but one that I particularly like is the 'Form Typer', where you can drop a pdf file into it and it locates the areas where you need to fill in parts and alows you to fill in the form, no need to print the form and re-scan .... Great! (even alows a signature).
The Folders it creates by default are a bit American (like 'Real Estate' & 'Vacations') but these are easily changed.
One feature I have not used is their version of the cloud called paperport anywhere, I may try that next, but I use DropBox anyway.
All in all VERY well worth the money.
