What's my name again? Oh yeah, Reg Presley.,

It probably won't make a lot of difference if I tell you I was one of 25 schoolkids on a day trip to Cheddar Caves when The Troggs were there having this (and other) photos taken for the sleeve. It was May 22nd 1966, another piece of uselss info? But they were the first rock band any of us had ever met face to face, so it was very special, but at the same time made me realise that much as we idolise our stars, they are but people, just like you and I. But when they're on stage, on TV, and their lifestyle means you rarely get the chance to meet them, they become the icons they are supposed to be.
So this album was a 'must have,' and although the picture is from Cheddar, it's not the one from the original 'From Nowhere' release, on the Fontana label, and quite a few extra tracks have been added. And surprised as they were by their #1 with Wild Thing, they hadn't written much original meterial, so there are a few cover versions here, but played The Troggs way, they too are special. Of course, after our 'meeting,' the Troggs meant and always will mean a great deal, as will this album, and every track is a winner as far as I'm concerned. And yes, the title for the review, Reg actually said this when we were asking for autographs, as he had only 'changed' his name from Ball to Presley a few weeks before and couldn't remember it!

Troggs - 'From Nowhere' (Repertoire),
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com

Nice CD reissue of the Trogg's very first album, originally released in 1966.Oh,the memories!Tunes I could hardly get enough of were "Wild Thing","Hi Hi Hazel",the over-looked(sort to speak)gem "Lost Girl","When I'm With You" and their cover of the frat rock staple "Louie Louie".Wish I had a dime for every band that covered this tune. Also, the CD's five bonus tracks are pretty good, liked the way they're all in mono.Long live the first British Invasion!A good find.

Classic Album!,
By Morten Vindberg - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: From Nowhere (Audio CD)
In April 1966 The Troggs suddenly "From Nowhere" appeared on the beat-scene. "Wild Thing" written by Chip Taylor was an instant world-wide hit. Actually the single was really their second; their first "Lost Girl" which is also included here, was a minor hit in Holland, but failed to chart in England.
"Lost Girl" was written by singer Reg Presley, who also wrote several of the songs on the album, as well as their two follow-up hits "With a Girl Like You" and "I Can't Control Myself" which are included as bonus-tracks. The Troggs' trademark was their raw r&b sound, often with provoking lyrics ( this was the 1960's!! ). This album is dominated inspired and catchy R&B tracks. It's well-deserved that the band got the reputation of being one of the very first punk-rock bands. But they also were capeable doing nice ballads; on this album "Our Love Will Still be There" and "Jingle Jangle" are good examples of this. A classic 1966 release; one of the finest in the Troggs discography. Only beaten by "Cellophane" and "Athens Andover"

midsixties primitive rock coolness,
By Michael P. Dobey - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: From Nowhere (Audio CD)
This disc came literally from nowhere , it had the classic number one hit 'wild thing' on it , which is protometal or protopunk. The bands songs are rock to more bouncy pop rock often. On this one is the classic hit single as well 'with a girl like you' and 'jingle jangle' is a fantastic ballad that sounds like a christmas song almost! The boys had a nice punky snotty attitude on some songs and on others you'd say they were just rock. This one is worth having in your collection of classic rock and roll cd's. And the midsixties were a very fun time in musical history bands like these were a mixture of garage band and more so get 'wild thinging" and groove to the primitive rockin from 1966.
