The film opens with four quick character introductions of "street" magicians. Daniel (Jesse Eisenberg) uses street magic to meet pretty women. His former assistant Henley (Isla "Legs" Fisher) does a stage act. McKinney (Woody Harrelson) is a hypnotist who uses his ability to shake down people. Jack (Dave Franco) uses his slight of hand to pick pocket people.

The four are summoned by Tarot cards (Lover, High Priestess, The Fool, and Death) to a common location. After the credits they become the world's greatest stage magicians while performing crime. They are followed by FBI Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) and Interpol Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent). Meanwhile Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) is exposing their seemingly impossible tricks on the Internet.

The film keeps you interested as to their next trick. The movie drops clues as to what is going on, but again there is the classic misdirection here too. It is s fun popcorn action film filled with mystery, drama, action, and humor.

Parental Guide: One f-bomb. no sex, or nudity. Some sex discussion. Woman in bra.

A transparent climax; an awful twist. Likeable moments litter the first half but they are buried beneath nonsense. The fantastic cast simply can't manage to hide an offensively stupid script. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but I felt I had to level the playing field a little with all the glowing commentary which somehow surrounds this film. I awarded two stars because I actually enjoyed the first thirty minutes, and up to a point found the overt stupidity endearing. With regard to the film as a whole, two stars is probably very generous.

This film is the sort of level of flashy cinema teal-and-orange forgettable for which I normally wouldn't bother writing a review, but there are a couple of things about Now You See Me that struck me as worth commenting on. I actually really wanted to see this when it came out as I thought it looked really good from the trailer, kind of Inception-like and pretty stylish - now I can say for sure I am glad I waited and saw it here for free.

There are lots of good people in this film, which is part of what drew me to it in the first place (e.g. Mark Ruffalo who of course is actually even more likeable when he's angry *wink*), but unfortunately the actors are unable to make up for the mediocrity of the script. I think Isla Fisher or maybe Dave Franco got the worst luck as far as awful lines are concerned, but the dialogue all round wasn't great, and neither was the storyline in my opinion. The premise of these four magicians who pull crazy tricks robbing banks and outwitting the FBI sounds great, but there ended up being too many cheering crowds and explosions of money and not enough believable back-story or characterisation. There were some exciting scenes, such as the car chase and the bit where they were running through the mardi gras crowds, but you can find those scenes in any summer action blockbuster; this film should have been full of tricks and surprises and really clever moments that stay with you, and in that department it was disappointing.

Films about magicians, and big-budget ones at that, are inevitably going to go in for huge spectacular technological 'magic tricks' that look good with a wide panning shot and some intense music and can be 'revealed' without offending anyone in the Magic Circle.

I'd seen so many trailers of this movie, all of my friends had recommend this one was a good movie to go and see at the cinema. I actually missed the chance to go, but from buying it one afternoon, I can say, I was actually very impressed. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, all, I will say is four very clever magicians and a twist, that you will not be expecting.

Well where to start with this very original and thought provoking tale of deception and intrigue..

The film carries it's self very well from start to finish, we see 4 street magicians make their way to the top of their profession after they are recruited by a mystery person, they then perform in a Series of large stage shows in which they appear to pull off amazing heists and spread the wealth among their audience. My only disappointment with the story line was that we skip a year from their recruitment and go straight into the shows, there could have been a lot more depth in their progression and training together that we just don't see.
However the story line is intriguing and keeps you gripped right to the very end.

The acting itself is wonderful from the likes of Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, they play their parts very well and the characters are very believable.

I will myself be buying a copy when it is released for my collection and I am sure I will watch it many times, although some things could be improved and there could be more depth in parts of the story line and the characters this is a fantastic watch and I am surprised anyone was didn't enjoy it.

Now You Buy It.

An unusual, entertaining and thought provoking film. It's the story of four magicians, each with unique talents, who are summoned to a mysterious meeting before eventually seeming to rob a bank during their show. They are pursued by the FBI and a man who seeks to uncover and expose them. But what is real and what is illusion?
An intelligent and engaging film with a good cast. If you enjoy a film that makes you think, this is definitely worth a go.
