Yes I have to agree, this is by far Shaky's best work for a long, long time, my favourite album of his since the Greatest Hits set that came out in 1984. A strong, solid album with a nice mixture of originals and covers. I never used to like the song "Got my mind set on you", but Shaky does a great version! My favourite tracks on the album are - "Now Listen", "Somewhere In The Night", "Fire Down Below" and "Lonely Too Long". It's about time the general public started taking this man seriously, he deserves huge success on both sides of the Atlantic with this release.

Having grown up listening to shaky in the 80`s, there was know one more thrilled than me when i heard about this album, i hadn`t heard about shaky for so long, i thought he`d retired from singing. This is a fantastic album and all the songs are great so i can`t say which is the best one but if i had to it would be BABY IT`S YOU, TROUBLE AND GET TOGETHER. If you like good old rock `n` roll then this is the one for you.

There's really something here for everyone and his vocals seem to be better (if that's possible) from the hey-days of the 80's. I was a really big fan back in the day, yet when I first heard about this album release was a bit sceptical. How wrong I was; Shaky has plied his trade-mark all over this album with fantastic lyrics and like an old malt, a voice that just gets better over time. For me 'somewhere in the night' and 'pump it up' stand out as firm favourites. This said, all the songs are well written and will connect to listeners in different ways. It's a very difficult task to re-invent yourself whilst still offering what was there once before, yet through his dedication and love of music he has delivered a pure gold album that just gets better and better the more you hear it - hats'-off to Shakin Stevens.

Yes, like most other 30 something's here, I grew up with Shaky, even saw him live once in Carlisle. And yes still to this day have all the 12" albums lovingly stored with the rest of my large collection, so; what does this album mean to me?
Well, as an album it stands very tall, even by today's standards of "top selling artist" sure its no trend breaking /changing record, but lets be fair.. Has there been one since the Beatles or Sabbath?! You get my drift,,, Still.
This record as well as being thoroughly enjoyable is an instant time machine back to 1986 (ish) to me as a child listening to the top 10 on the radio to see if Merry Christmas everyone was at No1, then going to my Grans to spend the holidays.. It makes you warm and fuzzy, like having your first fizzy flying saucer after a 20 year absence from your life.
When Mr Steven's voice tingles through your speakers, you'll soon remember why you were captivated as a child.

Final Word?

Well done Mr Barrett, you've done us all proud Top marks from me. A fine Album
with a superb title track.
All we need now is to have all those earlier albums re-released, save our vinyl!

Now Listen was successful in Denmark and Poland, but not officially released elsewhere including in the UK.
Apparently this was due to a key player supporting the album in Sony moving to the US. Originally a UK release date was announced around September 2006 time. This was put back for what was I think quoted by the management as "delayed to co-incide with a future marketing opportunity", which then never happened.

This release should have actually followd the success of "The Collection" on the back of the other 2005 successes (Hit Me Baby One More Time TV show, Trouble single, the DVD) that Shaky had much sooner, but alas an opprtunity missed. This is a great shame because the album is brilliant and certainly at least his best since "The Bop Won't Stop". For me it doesn't quite eclips 1981's "Shaky" or 1982's "Give Me Your Hear Tonight", but alongside "The Bop..." it's the best of the rest.

The hit "Trouble" is included, the excellant Pink cover. Other great tracks are a brilliant cover of George Harrissons "Got My Mind Set On You". "I Hear You Knockin" is right up Shaky's street. The excellant "Now Listen", which was supposed to be a single release the week before the album, deserved to be a follow-up to "Trouble" and deserved to be a bigger hit as an original self penned track.

The record company let Shaky down here. They should have shown more committment and this album could have done so much more, it deserved it.

Look, we all have our "blind spots" and Shaky is one of mine. I've loved the guy since I was two years old (as an aside I once wrote to Jim'll Fix It to get to meet Shaky - I didn't, but was sent a signed photograph AND Shaky once sent me a get well card when I was in hospital). Here we are over 25 years later and his new album Now Listen hits the shelves.

Not that anyone in the UK would have noticed, given that despite the fact its "non-releases" (this has been on the schedules at least two previous times) got plenty of publicity, this actual release doesn't appear to have been a priority.

It probably goes without saying that if you like Shaky, and his brand of Rock 'n' Roll then you'll find plenty to enjoy here. Similarly, if you don't like Shaky, this is hardly going to change your mind.

Standout tracks include the Elvis Vegas era-esque Fire Down Below (which songwriter Jerry Scheff wrote for Elvis, but who never got around to laying down vocals - which is ironic given Shaky's music career beginnings), It's A Shame, a soothing ballad, and his riotous version of Pink's Trouble.

Yes, it's like we never had the 1990's (or hell, the 2000's either) in terms of sound and attitude but as the unmistakable sound of Shaky signing what he does best it's certainly a pleasant forty minutes of good old fashioned rock 'n' roll.
