I am a life-long voracious reader. I read a book or so a week. I have been surrounded by books all my life, and I enjoy all kinds of literature.

That being said.... I have never read a better book in my life, on this planet, than The Young Adult Novel.

I first read it over 15 years ago, and it continues to influence and inspire my thinking. I wish they still published it by itself. I would give it as a gift to everyone I know.

It is a favorite friend.

What can I say...The Literary Jelly Donut has made living agood thing. In a day and age of kids with guns and stand offs in ruby ridge and everyday violence and horror, it is refreshing to read of a simpler way of life. A way where kids do not need guns because frankly they are smarter than the adults anyway. A world where kids are the superior ones because after all they are down with things. I have found the perfect cure for bi-polarity and for other mental ilnesses that plague humanity...a good dose of Daniel Pinkwater. Here's to you oh Mighty King. I would give him 10 stars but it was not listed. END

Great stuff for the kids...adults, too.
This guy's warped, in a good way. Modern-day chickens are the degenerated race of ancient super-chickens? Even today an occasional throwback chicken is as smart as Einstein? Read more

Hilarious, you could break a rib laughing
Pinkwater has mastered the art of comical storytelling. He should do stand up. All the books are great, with the best being Alan Mendelsohn. Read more

The book is too big for this age group
Each one of these books is an excellent choice for the Middle School age group. But most children in this age range will not attempt a book this size (approx 650 pages. Read more

3 of the stories were not that good
Iliked Alan Mendelsohn and Slaves of Spiegel. They were great books. However, I did not like the other three.

What if HE'S the sane one?
I loved Pinkwater when I was eleven and I love him at least as much now. He treats his readers with respect, rather than talking down to them, and he is one of the funniest... Read more

ages 9-12 hell; get it & read it!!
Don't bother about which ages these novels were written for; if you can and do read, you'll like them all--I missed 'em 26 years ago, but that mistake has been rectified . . . Read more

This book not only makes you laugh, it also makes you think - what if Alan really WAS a Martian, and we COULD go to Hogsboro and go into "state twenty-six"? Read more
