Product Description

Product Description

Pop has waited far too long for an artist called Joost Zweegers. That the Belgian singer-songwriter has opted to release his works under the relatively pedestrian nom-de-plume Novastar is a shame, but we can't have everything. Zweegers is a big deal in the low countries, and it isn't hard to see why: these are slick, polished, sophisticated pop ballads, well crafted and well sung, if at times reminiscent of Crowded House to a frankly unnerving degree. "Wrong" and "Carelessly Dating" were both hits at home, and it can be imagined that they could do the same across Europe--they pitch roughly equidistant between A-Ha and Andreas Johnson, evoking if not always possessing the exuberant pop sense of the former and the glacial gloominess of the latter. And his name is Joost Zweegers. Cool. --Andrew Mueller

One of the best albums there is! Each song is a masterpiece, written and sung by an artist with a beautiful, warm voice. The emotions are real, the lyrics honest, the music touching.

mindblowing debut 27 Mar. 2004

with this self-titled album, novastar secured himself of a prominent spot in the belgian scene. although a lot poppier than the follow-up, this album contains 10 tracks of beautiful pop/rock featuring moving vocals, nice lyrics and floating melodies. a masterpiece.
Good stuff 23 Nov. 2008

We saw Novastar open for Neil Young at a small outdoor venue in Germany 4 or 5 Summers ago. The songs are fairly simple. They hit you with a growing wave of sound. Not quite as strong as Reamonn for example, but compelling enough to make me look for the album afterwards. No simple task at the time -- thank you Amazon for fixing that.

It's too bad that good music like this from the European continent isn't more accessible to U.S. audiences. But then again, we probably have thousands of musicians here in the States who are dedicated to their craft and still struggling to get a foothold...

this CD of Novastar. If you like Coldplay or Saybia, you have to listen to Novastar from Belgium. Great (emotional) pop songs like 'wrong' and 'the best is yet to come'. A must have.

top of belgian rock 10 Dec. 2000
By alexander hof - Published on
Format: Audio CD
After great belgian bands such as dEUS and K's choice, novastaer made his big step in the world of rock. His big succes came shortley after the release of his first CD and he became one of the biggest belgian rock bands. Soon after his succes in Belgium, he became famous in the rest of Europe. With his great voice and his sense for music he'll be a worldstar in no time.
