Amazon.co.uk Review

With a story that's too flimsy to support its running time, this road-mo vie comedy has plenty of problems, but at its best it's a surprisingly inspired vehicle for the clever teaming of Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence. Robbins plays an addled advertising executive who comes home early one day and discovers his wife in bed with his boss. To make matters worse, he's later carjacked by a struggling, unemployed family-man-turned-petty-thief (Lawrence), and that's when he loses his cool completely. He takes the carjacker hostage and recruits him on a road-trip scheme of revenge against his wife and boss. Plotting to break into his boss' high-security vault, Robbins gets a criminal assist from Lawrence, but they're also on the run from another pair of would-be thieves who trail them to the vault's location. The routine plot of Nothing To Lose is occasionally limp and sluggish, but writer-director Steve Oedekerk (who makes a wacky cameo appearance as a security guard) mines comedy gold during several scenes that detour from the plot for the sake of sheer lunacy. Robbins and Lawrence have great comedic chemistry (if you can tolerate Lawrence's constant profanity), and although the movie ends on a false note with some unlikely turns of fate, it's definitely good for more than a few solid laughs. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is The Funniest Film I have Ever Seen, 10 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This film has it all love hate betrayal robbery fighting and most important of all pure comedy!!! I have bought this film on DVD and watched it so many times i have lost count. If you enjoy side-splitters and rib busting comedy this is your film...martin and Tim what an unbelieveable pair! With Nick Beam and T on your screens you are guarenteed to laugh yourselves silly. I gave this film 5 stars a truely wonderful performance by 2 of the greatest comedy actors of all time!

5.0 out of 5 stars If it had been any funnier my head may have fallen off ! ! !, 1 Aug 2000

What would you do if you went home and caught your wife in bed with another man...kill them I hear you say but thats probably what NICK BEAM thought but if he had've done this we would not have had the pleasure of splitting our sides to this movie. When Lawrence '...Picks the wrong guy on the wrong day...' he finds himself wrapped up in a plot that will see him get get shot at chased and end up seeing the 'dick' cut off a statue! I really enjoyed the film because it wasn't what you'd expect to happen everyday and where the hell do you get a torch with a radio in it? If you haven't seen the film you've got 'Nothing To Lose' get the hell out there and buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, damn funny., 7 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Tim robbins is a serious actor but in this he lets his hair down starring along side Martin Lawrence. Tim finds his wife having an affair with his boss and decides to leave home in a saddened state. On the way Martin tries to rob him and gets caught with a desperate man who has 'Nothing to Lose'. So begins a friendship between the two characters (after the intial mishaps) and they plan to rob his boss. There is an interesting twist at the end (all comes out in the wash scenario), with lots of comedy sketches in between. Overall the mix between comedy and story is well balanced, will keep you laughing until the very last scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always makes me feel better
This one is a "I've had a rubbish day I'm gonna eat a worm" staple for me. Yes, it's funny, and yes, in an obvious, non-intellectual, loud and very American sort of way. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Harmless and fun
Nothing to lose was a fun film to watch, it had sillyness and the story was Ok but not riveting. Choose to watch with older kids and parents who don't mind swearing.
