It's definitely a good album with no poor songs on. Personally I prefer Learning to Breathe and A Beautiful Letdown. If you liked those, chances are you'd like this one too becuase the styles are fairly similar.
The songs are less catchy than on the other albums and slightly more strange which makes them interesting. I think it's one of those albums I'll grow to love with more listening.
Lonely Nation - my favourite track on the CD - literally what the title says - its a fairly upbeat song but with a sort of dark sound to it with quality music in the verses
Stars - a great catchy upbeat quite heavy song
Happy is a Yuppie Word - Not a brilliant song musically but good lyrics. Basically the jist of ecclesiastes.
The Shadow Proves The Sunshine - A slow song tht builds up. It's quite good an interesting one musically and lyrically a hopeful song on the album
Easier than love - upbeat, catchy in a wierd way - good lyrics about how society has misconceptions about love and sex.
The Blues - A slow song that goes into life's low points. It's good musically, although perhaps a little drawn out.
The Setting Sun - I like this one. It's quite upbeat and catchy, again in a wierd way.
Politicians - The heaviest song on the album about our broken world. "i pledge allegiance to a country without borders, without politicians," a reference to the kingdom of God.
Golden - A good upbeat soft rock song, perhaps comparable to Lifehouse or the like. Another song with positive lyrics.
The Fatal Wound - Another song about life's pain, musically brilliant a very good song on the album but unfortunately negative lyrically
We Are One Tonight - A good song that has fairly positive lyrics. Musically driving and uplifiting.
Daisy - Not one of my favourites. Its a slow quite song with an interesting use of chords and positive lyrics about redemption but for me it just drags on and does catch in.
All in all I would recommend this CD. If you already own The Beautiful letdown and/or Learning to Breathe, you may find it disappointing if you expect another one to be as good or better. It is however, definitely worth getting.
Pros:
Good, heartfelt lyrics
No rubbish songs
Musically quite varied
Wierd & wonderful
You dont discover everything after the first listen.
Cons:
Lyrically quite negative - a lot about pain, not much about the solution
Some songs not very catchy (this can be a good thing though as the songs can be surprising)
Rhythmically less creative than Learning to Breathe
