Product Description

Sue Conway is out of control. Recently released from prison she is determined to find the people responsible for putting her there and to give them a taste of what she has had to endure. When Sue kidnaps an eleven-year-old deaf boy it's only the first stage in an elaborate plan.
Running to Chicago, Sue poses as a battered woman and it leads her to Hanover House, an inner-city women's shelter, run by Dana Dupinsky. Dana safeguards many secrets in her own life and in the lives of those around her but she would never harbour a murderer, that is if she knew that one was living at the shelter.
Distracted by the presence of a new man in her life, Dana only realises the danger when those around suddenly start dying and she is thrust into the middle of Sue's dangerous and evil game...

Hits hard! 6 Jun 2006
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was a complex book, the main characters Dana - who has a pretty chequered background and runs an inner city women's shelter and Ethan the marine, turned security expert are both well developed characters- not without their flaws. Their immediate supporting casts are complementary both to the main characters and the plot. The psychotic killer is really quite scary - and all too believable. I raced along at a fair pace and more obstacles appeared at almost every page turn.

The only downside it has lots of people involved on the periphery and I had a bit of a problem at times figuring out if they were going to be important ( and the majority were not).

Aside from that well worth a read, but it might just make you a little jumpy!

Let's get to the positives first:

Good plot, well-formed characters, twists/turns and sufficient gore to make this a throughly enjoyable thriller

And now...

Sorry, but I found the romance/sex scenes just too much Mills & Boon and personally I found them off-putting and detracted from what was otherwise a well-constructed novel. Bit like Jeffrey Deaver meets Barbara Cartland = not a marriage than one would readily contemplate!

My advice would be to just read the rest of the book and to skip a couple of pages every time that Dana and Ethan get down to 'horizontal jogging' - you'll not lose any of the plot and the book will leave a better impression.

Good plot but too long 26 July 2008
By crime reader TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This is a book which has a good plotline in it, if you stick around long enough to find it! I had read about 150 pages and was still debating whether or not to carry on as I was not finding it very exciting but decided to persevere a little longer as one of the other reviews on here said it took a while to get into. I think I had read over 200 pages before I actually began to enjoy it.
It IS a good story, but to me, far too much time is spent on unimportant detail that bears no relevance on the plot, I think this author needs to realise that it's about quality not quantity, this would have been a much better book if it had been at least a hundred pages shorter. The extra waffle only serves to bore the reader (well this reader anyway)and could put people off.
