A Special Look at a Special Place 26 Sep 2007
By Laurie Loveman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Only in the past few years has it become "okay" to openly grieve over the loss of a dear animal or bird companion. Those of us who have spent time with horses have heard of the Rainbow Bridge, and whether we openly admit it or not, the knowledge is a comfort--someday we will be able to put our arms around not only the humans we have loved, but at the Rainbow Bridge, we can once again hug our "buddies."

At a time when the death of an animal companion is sudden, unexpected, and horrific--as might occur in a barn fire--author Beth Szillagy gives us the gift of Chloe, a smart-mouthed Samoyed, who tells us about her boss, Big Dog, the inner workings of the Rainbow Bridge, and the stories of some of the animals who have come to the Rainbow Bridge. This book helps us to see beyond our immediate grief; it allows us to laugh in the midst of sorrow, and that's so important in our recovery.

And, although we know that Chloe and her friends at the Rainbow Bridge are fictional--born of Beth Szillagy's wonderful imagination--consider this: in July, 2007, we learned through an Associated Press article by Ray Henry, that Oscar, a cat who lives in a nursing home in Providence, Rhode Island, has comforted 25 people as they departed this existence. Is Oscar carrying out the orders of Big Dog? Read Chloe's Notes From Rainbow Bridge and decide for yourself.
