About the Author
Dr John Brannigan is lecturer in Irish Studies and Literary Studies at the University of Luton. He is the co-editor of Re: Joyce, a collection of essays which reflects contemporary responses and appraoches to Joyce. He has also published work on contemporary literary theories, the literature of 1950s Britain, and a number of Irish writers, including W.B. Yeats and Brendan Behan.

This book really helped me understand the stories within the Dubliners and really helped me in my A Level exam. Fantastic! It helps you understand the underlying themes of the book as well as explain the terminology Joyce uses. I highly recommend this brilliant book.

I highly enjoyed this particular work of James Joyce. 'Dubliners' was a text I had to study in my AS year; along with 'The kite runner' and on that point I would recommend both. 'Dubliners' is a text of, I would say, moderate complexity and deals with a lot of taboo and traditional subjects. The york notes I would advice any student studying it to by; even if you completely understand the text, this further develops your understanding and touches on more advanced topics within 'Dubliners' such as; 'malapropism' which is something we definately didn't cover. I hope you find that this helps, as I did, with your exam (if its an exam textbook) or if your just interested and want more on 'Dubliners'.
