This story will have a go at every emotion you have. You will be sad, angry, you will laugh and then wonder how it can be true. Be assured that it is and as so will just give you enough hope that the extraordinary can happen- to anyone! I loved it !

How as adults, these so called 'carers' could have dealt so heartlessly with children, I will never understand. All of the children in care in this book went through untold heartache and yet it would seem, not one adult cared enough to give them any kindess, love or understanding. One can only hope and pray that the care system today is a better one. I felt so much for Alan and Irene's losses and heartaches, and am so glad they found each other again. But shame on you, care system! A good read.

A real page-turner! Beautifully written, true, autobiographical, alternating chapters by Alan and Irene, who came together in a "care" home in the 1950s. They were both so brave, even from the ages of seven and nine, when they first met. I found the young Alan's stoical escapades in his attempts to find Irene, especially moving. I am so glad they found each other again, but so sad that it took all those many years of heartache.

You will not be disappointed if you read this book, although you will experience a range of emotions from sorrow to rage at the system then prevailing - but love for them both. It is hard to put down.
