Product Description

Review

Praise for Not a Box: "Dedicated 'to children everywhere sitting cardboard boxes', this wonderful little book perfectly captures the amazing capacity of a child's imagination to create endless possibilities out of a humble box. Brilliantly illustrated with a cute bunny (bearing a passing homage to the graphic minimalism of Duck Bruna's Miffy), the box becomes all manner of wonderful things, from a rocketship to a hot-air balloon -- anything but a plain old cardboard box. A super book that's as close to perfection as a picture book can get!" Junior "Simple and appealing... Nicely packaged in a cardboard cover, it looks like a kids' classic in the making." Time Out "A stylish paean to the imagination for two- to four-year-olds." Financial Times Magazine "This fashionably simple book has Rabbit encouraging young children to explore imaginary worlds whilst sitting in a cardboard box -- on land or water or up into space. Great fun." Carousel "The adorable story of Rabbit and imaginative world within a simple cardboard box." Practical Parenting

Product Description

A beautifully designed book, celebrating the power of the imagination to transform even the most ordinary of objects into something magical. A stick is just a stick! unless it's not a stick. From fishing rod to dragon-taming sword a small pig shows that a stick will go as far as the imagination allows. Antoinette Portis captures the thrill of when pretend feels so real that it actually becomes reality. Her simple, spare text and illustrations show that seeing truly depends on the ability to believe in the possibilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a stick, 10 Jan 2010

A wonderful book with simplistic pictures that draw you in because the picture looks child friendly as though a child could do it! The journey of the story opens up a child imagination and starts the 'thinking process' that opens up the world of 'it can be whatever YOU want it to be'. So delightful the idea makes you think 'why didnt I think about writing this book'. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars why all children play with sticks, 27 July 2011
This review is from: Not A Stick (Paperback)
This is a really lovely book. Along with "Not a Box" I've read it to lots of children who love it. Its very simple images and children love to guess what the pig is pretending the stick is. I think its clever too - so many adults are so quick to utter the "put that down" comments without stopping to understand and see what the child might really be doing. Children seem to really appreciate that this book understands that a stick can be so many different things...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a stick, 30 Mar 2011
This review is from: Not A Stick (Paperback)
No colours

Rather abstract for a childrens book

I'm not sure what age of child would enjoy it
