What makes a promise--and a marriage? The deep success of the fearless and ultimately positive film Not Easily Broken is that it doesn't attempt to answer that question--only ask it, bravely, from many different perspectives. Morris Chesnutt and Taraji P. Henson give deep, heartfelt performances as Dave and Clarice, a married couple with shards of friction working at their bonds. Their lives are instantly relatable, as they deal with waves of boredom, distraction, conflicting goals, and deep love they may sometimes take for granted. After Clarice is injured, her overbearing mom (Jenifer Lewis) moves in to help care for her, and a chain of tests and challenges begins to unfold. The career-focused Clarice has a mini-showdown with her well intentioned mother: "In all your lessons about how to be strong, you left out some very important things", Clarice cries to her mother (Jenifer Lewis), who snaps, "What?" "How to love, Mama!" The film, based on the novel by the best-selling author T.D. Jakes, embraces spirituality, but never preaches (a combination that would be welcome in more films about relationships and family), and the decisions of its characters are always believable--sometimes heartbreakingly so. Savor the real-world rewards, and the spiritual overtones, of a love fought for, in Not Easily Broken. --A.T. Hurley

Synopsis

Based on the best selling novel by T.D. Jakes, a couple's strength and faith are tested after the wife is injured in a car crash and her husband becomes attracted to another woman.

5.0 out of 5 stars great movie! 11 Oct 2009
Format:DVD
I watched this movie on sky last night with my husband and I have to say we very much enjoyed it.
The story line was good, I found it addressed some of the serious issues that most married couples face.
Basically, bottom line it is telling you, if you keep God in your marriage it will not make these issues go away but easier to deal with. God is first and foremost and everything else will follow. A great movie, I would recommend it to anyone. Well done!

P.S I love the way Clarice speaks to her mom without disrespecting her. We all have encountered the meddling parent at one point or the other and must sometimes tell them to keep out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not easily broken 29 Jun 2009
Format:DVD
This DVD was most inspiring for those who are about to or are married.
It's real and it's deep.
Shows how a women should respect her husband and how a man should love his wife.
Knowing that no one should come between them and if there is a dispute don't let anyone have a say but search the word of GOD as He is the one the husband and wife made a promise to as well as to each other.

Loved the movie

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend this film 11 Oct 2010

Format:DVD
I decided to purchase this DVD because I'm currently going through a difficult time in my marriage. My wife and I cannot seem to agree on a next step to tackle issues in our marriage and I thought this would be good to watch to get another perspective. Above all else, this film reaffirmed to me that every marriage goes through it's own struggles and how unmet needs can drive a couple apart. I watched it independently of my wife (she watched it later on her own) and I could relate to so much of it. It was also good that as a Christian, it had a religious element that's usually ignored by Hollywood in such films: the truth that God is the 3rd and most important strand in a marriage.

The film gave me hope that love triumphs over all and the bumps along the way is not uncommon and can strengthen a marriage if you're prepared to work at it. I look forward to the day we can set aside our personal differences and remember the reasons why we decided to commit to a lifetime together ...

If you ever wondered what the word "respect" means, then after watching this movie you will by all means know what the true defination is. It has the moral lesson every married couple should experience to attain a sucessful relationship. Brilliant acting and really worth watching. It could save your marriage or relationship!!!!!

After reading reviews for this film i was sure it would be suitable for christians and looked forward to sitting down to watch with my family.
How dissapointed i was that within 10 mins the word a** was said ALOT, we overlooked this but it took alot then our Lord Jesus Christ's name was used as a curse word.

The film was turned off.

I don't sit easily with this and for any one who trusts in the cleansing blood of Christ this film would not be any benefit to you no matter how good the "story" might be or the acting, surely this film would be MUCH better without the blasphemy.
Cannot see how this can be sold as a christian film as it most diffinately isn't

4.0 out of 5 stars IT TAKES TWO 23 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
The film was a good one to sit down, relax and watch. A little bit slow at first, but as soon as you get into the story line, it gets more interesting. The film shows the side effect of bringing a 3rd party into a marriage or a steady relationship,be it family member or friend. One party is at the recieving end.
It shows that in a relationship you have to know what makes you happy and reciprocate or the relationship MIGHT fail. There are other morals to the story...... I like the christian faith behind the story. Would recommend.

Cheers

1.0 out of 5 stars This is a miss!
Waste of my time and money. I am still undecided on whether or not it was the story that was weak or the actors did a dastardly job.
