Walter Richmond (William Hurt), his wife Cathryn (Jennifer Tilly), and his daughter Melissa (Francesca Brown), are all on holiday together in Amsterdam. One day however, Melissa accidentally witnesses a murder, and subsequently becomes targeted by the killers, who are intent on ensuring that she never reveals their identities. But Melissa is unable to speak, and consequently cannot explain to her parents what is happening.
