A book that is as practical as 'Motorcycle Roadcraft' is heavy, Not the Blue Book is still from the same (UK police riding practices) hymn-sheet but is an immensely down-to-earth guide on how to make your riding smoother, more pro-active, relaxed, safer and enjoyable. Dave Jones helped rewrite MCRC and was a career motorcycle traffic rider for most of his working life, and is blessed with an ability to put technique and reasoning across in very understandable terms. Buy it, read it, and get more from your motorcycling.

Without doubt the author knows his stuff. Similarly the content of the book is undoubtedly good. But why won't people who self-publish seek the help of a professional writer to turn their wisdom into good, comprehensible, language that educates their reader? Good practitioners don't always make good teachers, and I'm afraid this is the case here. There's a vast science behind teaching methods and creating self-help and progressive teaching materials and the subject matter of this book would justify a more skillful approach in this way. There are far too few illustrations, there's no attempt to get the reader to think before progressing, and there's no way for the reader to check whether they have understood. If you are already a devotee of Motorcycle Roadcraft, then you'll get a bit from this book, but if you are not already familiar with MCRC then I'm afraid a lot of this will mean very little to you.

The knowledge gap that this book filled has partly been filled by the IAM's new handbook How to be a better rider. However, it is still well worth having in your library. It contains many excellent observations on Hazard awarness and riding safely.
Highly recommended.
