This is a wonderful book - a mixture of short stories and poems. There are few Shona authors today who still tell stories without a lot of pretentious writing. Chingono is one of those few. The character of the man shines through in all his writing. It is perceptive and warm and often very funny. He can tell of some tragic things with an indomitable humour that is not flippant or bitter - he can touch your heart and make you laugh at the same time.
There are some clips of Chingono reading his poetry on You Tube. There are some more unpublished Chingono poems on Poetry International Web - several of them with a soundtrack of Chingono reading.
