Product Description

Product Description

Jenny Tomlin suffered horrendous neglect and physical and sexual abuse throughout her childhood at the hands of her father. This harrowing story is told in the number one bestseller Behind Closed Doors and the heartrending follow-up, Silent Sisters. Jenny has campaigned on behalf of fellow victims of abuse for charities Barnardo's and Refuge and she is a passionate believer in the absolute necessity of encouraging victims to speak out and others to listen to them and believe their stories. It is in this spirit that she has brought her own story together with other powerful, inspiring, horrifying and humbling tales of resilience, courage and sheer determination to escape victimhood and embrace a better future. These are the testimonies of Jenny's heroes.

About the Author

Jenny Tomlin educated herself to A level standard and started writing a few years ago. She is now happily married and living in France and has just finished working on the second part of her extraordinary life journey. Her most fulfilling roles have been as loving wife to Alan and mother to her children - celebrated actress Martine McCutcheon and her son LJ - giving them the stability and love she never received herself.

I've read both of Jenny Tomlin's previous books, Behind Closed Doors and Silent Sisters and thought they were very good. I got this for my birthday and was expecting the same, but was a bit disappointed. I somehow felt that some of the stories and situations were a bit contrived. I found it a bit hard to believe that Jenny Tomlin knew personally nearly all of the victims that she wrote about. I also thought that the book suffered from an overuse of cliche's which sometimes made you feel that you were reading a work of fiction. It's still an interesting book, which covers a wide range of different types of abuse, but it just wasn't as good as the first two.

Previous reviewer hit the nail on the head, I found it difficult to believe that Jenny Tomlin personally knows every person she spoke about all who have suffered such a wide variety of horrific abuse. However, again bringing this into the open is always got to be a positive thing. Read it in about 2 hours, not really worth the money. Might have been better focusing on less stories, and giving more detail of how the people came to live positive lives, instead of the one paragraph. Author claims this is the purpose of the book, to show how people move on.

My mother is a huge fan of Jenny Tomlin herself and loved one of her books but couldn't find any other in store so when I found 2 and for 1p each how could I not treat her she was over the moon.
