First rule of any JP album, there must be a track with a title ending in ...ER, think Grinder, Sinner, the ripper, Jawbreaker, Cheater and pushing the point a little, Rocka Rolla. Shock! Horror! there's no such track to be found on Nostradamus
So having established that the rule book's taken a hike for this one, what have we got? Well if you were expecting another bunch of NWOBHM tracks from a group of blokes who have got back together merely to top up the pension fund, well forget it. This is a complete departure from the well trodden path, yes its a concept album but a concept album without the long dreary pretentious bits of many of the 70's worst examples of the genre. Instead its soars and dives from thrashing guitar to gentle melody and back like a Wagner opera.

Die hard fans looking for another "British Steel" will be sorely disapointed, imagine Marilion lyrics played by Iron Maiden with instrumental sections by Ian Anderson (no flutes though) and your about there. That being said, if you're the kind of person who can enjoy Motorhead whilst still appreciating Mozart, its well worth buying even if it should have had one more track - Prophesier!!

At first I listened to this (afterr reading some of the reviews) and thought, yeah seven out of ten so i threw it in with the car cds. There it grew on me as I drove around with the speakers blasting I decided ten out of ten after a third spin. Now it it is one of my fave priest cds, better than or almost equal to AOR.
The first CD is the best, prophecy is good, but I like awakening blending into Revelations and solo sections three quarter way through is ace.
Then we have sands of time, a gentle opening to plague and pestilence.

In a year that has seen very strong comebacks from more classic rock acts that anyone possibly could have expected, this for me is the pick of the bunch. If you're looking for the sort of stripped down hits which Priest were famous for in the 80s then this record probably isn't for you, but if you like your rock ridiculously overblown and theatrical, then this will blow you away.

A double concept album about Nostradamus, who has predicted the Second World War, various dates for the end of the world, and anything else you want to read in to his writings if you try hard enough, this is in places more the sort of music you'd expect to see on a West End stage than at a Priest gig. The trademark duelling guitars are still very much present however, and Rob Halford gives possibly the performance of his life, giving us everything from overblown operatic wail to anguished whisper to strutting menace.

Hugely recommended if you like a large dollop of theatricality in your rock, but listen before you buy if you're after classic Priest.

I recently read an interview on priest and rob halford made a good point. He said that nostradamus is underated at the moment because it is different but in time it will be accepted and veiwed as a classic". He is right and this has been the case with many albums in the past.

I was the same upon first listen. I heard the first 4 tracks and thought oh my god what have a bought. But just recently i have been listening to it as a whole album and i love every bit of it. This really does need to be listened to all at once . its not for the downloading era of which we live in where people take 2 or 3 songs. you need to take this as a whole.

Even if you try listening to it all and still dislike it thats fair enough because not everyone will but at least give priest credit where its due. They have tried something different instead of releasing an album which has the same kind of stuff as the older releases.

Is it what you would expect? Yes and No. Priests sounds is absolutely there. but if your looking for 3 minute metal hits your not going to find it here.

This is in my opinion a modern classic, Atmospheric, beautifully produced and full of variety. Priest are talented artists and this goes to show they can turn their hand to something different and not only succeed but succeed spectacularly. Its shouldnt be a surprise how well this works, complimenting Halfords voice beautifully and staging the story convincingly. I'll admit "concept album" has had is casualties in the past. This is not one of those albums.

Just buy it.

Priest are one of the best metal/rock bands ever and because of this, I'm prepared to give this cd longer to sink in.
On first listen I was aching for it to blast me away with some solid metal songs but it didn't do that, therefore I was disappointed, but when I thought about it, this is the life story of a man, and life isn't all blood and thunder, so I read the lyrics to get a better view of what was happening. The record is like anything in life, take the time to explore it and you'll hear something different than the casual listener. The band are on top form expecially Rob, who has proved beyond doubt that he has one of the best voices in any type of music and also proves that Tim Ripper Owens was mearly a stand in, as Rob has much more depth than most singers combined.
When you listen to this cd casually it does annoy, because one quiet moment seems to lead to another at times and that is frustrating to the listener, but dig a little deeper and you'll enjoy some more,.......honest, give it a go!
Ps, The Deluxe edition offers no more that the standard edition, only the deluxe has a hard back cover, so beware.
