A quite unexpected gem, 3 Dec 2007
This review is from: Nostradamus: The Good News (Hardcover)
The diviner Nostradamus has acquired a certain notoriety for his generally dark prophecies about the future, and I would bet that most people's knowledge of him and his quatrains has been in that spirit. One of my earliest encounters with Nostradamus came while listening to Al Stewart's 1973 song called 'Nostradamus, Pt. 1', in which he sings about some of the better known prophecies: the great London fire of 1666, the rise of Franco and Hitler and the assassinations of Jack and Robert Kennedy. No wonder that Nostradamus and his predictions continue to fascinate us to this day.
It was thus with great interest -- and astonishment -- that I came across a book of Nostradamus' 'good news'. To my shame, I have to admit that I was quite unaware of the breadth and scope of Nostradamus' predictions, straggling both bad and good news. The author should be praised just for exposing us to these 'other' prophecies.
Once again employing his 'trademark' technique of unraveling secret connections that has already proved very effective in 'Nostradamus: the Complete Prophesies for the Future', Mario Reading has produced another book both equally accessible to the layman and worthy of further study by anyone interested in delving further into the world of Nostradamus. Once again, the original French quatrains are juxtaposed with an authoritative, up-to-date and modern English translation. All this goes to show that reading Nostradamus' prophecies can be positive and -- dare I say it -- good fun.
After writing a book on both the good and the bad news, it is to be hoped that the author can be coaxed to provide a complete translation of all of Nostradamus' prophecies in the future.
