The Northwest garage had a very particular sound, that gravitated from the danceable frat-rock of the Wailers, Kingsmen and early Riders to the demented punk of the Sonics. The second volume of the 'Northwest Battle of the Bands' series is a good sampler of the scene, offering 30 tracks released at the time by Jerden Records and its subsidiaries.

The sound is superb for a garage comp, as the liner notes; and there are lots of highlights, like the opener 'You Were a Child', by Don & the Goodtimes (one of the best Northwest bands, check the anthology released by Munster); the irresistible 'You Weren't Using Your Head', by Rocky & The Riddlers (much better than the Wailers version, in my opinion); or the fuzz-drenched ballad 'Daddy Walked in Darkness', by Gil Bateman (a variation of 'House of the Rising Sun').
