A funny, heart warming and realistic tale of love, friendship and small town life, 23 Dec 2009
This review is from: Northern Soul Revival (Paperback)
This book is an uplifting story and a great read. It realistically captures the lives of those in their 20s and 30s who think they should have it all sorted by now, but are still working out the directions their lives will take.
It is a tale of friendship, romance, life changing decisions and settling down.
With three settings and two narrators, the book has lots going on. There is a strong theme of friendship throughout and the main characters' friends provide a host of realistic and likeable characters, some of whom I would like to see as stars of their own books!
Both of the main characters are sympathetic and believable. This isn't what many people will think of as a conventional romance, it is more of a comedy drama, and is all the better for it.
I would recommend this for anyone who likes Marian Keyes.

A book for men and women everywhere, 11 Jan 2010
This review is from: Northern Soul Revival (Paperback)
Men, don't be put off by the pink cover! This is a story for everyone that will get you hooked from page one. Characters are believable and the main male character is at least as likeable and vulnerable as the female lead. There's a good dash of humour and you'll be sorry when it's over.

Fantastic debut, 13 Jan 2010
This review is from: Northern Soul Revival (Paperback)
I went through a sort of grieving when I finished this book, as well as an eagerness to know what happened after the end. This book epitomises the phrase 'page turner'. Somehow the author, though herself female, manages to put a very believable male side of the story down on paper, and like the above reviewer I would urge male readers to try and ignore the pinkness of the cover. This is not a novel for women, it is a novel for anyone who has ever been a teenager, or a twenty something trying to pretend they are now an adult. A fantastic debut. Cannot wait to read the next one.
