By M. A. Coyle VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Over the years I have purchased many hundreds, if not thousands of Northern Soul CDs to find elusive dancefloor classics from the 1960s and 1970s. This is a good collection that I found in a Morrisons store with a diverse set of mostly 1960s original recordings. It contains many tracks previously on Goldmine compilations with dodgy sound taken from vinyl. Here though the sound is very good and surpasses the sometimes overly compressed sound of the 'Talcum Soul' compilations that overlap in terms of selections.

The only negative in the whole set I could find is including the weak 1970s remake (by the same artist) of 'Tainted Love' rather than the storming 1960s original. Other than that full kodus for the wonderful inclusion of 'Breakaway' by Derek Martin, which is a first for such a compilation (other than a dedicated artist set from a few years back).

Although as indicated I have lots of compilations and artist CDs to choose from, this has been on rotation in the car for weeks now with the wife and children singing along. So by mixing obvious pop-soul and deeper tracks like The Group, all with good sound quality at a reasonable price - what's not to like!

Heartily recommended.

I wish this CD had been out years ago,i could have saved myself a fortune on buying all my other CDs just to get these tracks.Every one is the original artist and recording and at a superb price.I hope this is the first in a series of 101 Northern Soul Anthems. There are certainly thousands of more tracks they can choose.

Cool Soul Memories 22 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
I came across this x4 CD by chance, I saw familiar tunes and some not so familiar. Once I started to play the collection of timeless classics, I remembered most of them from many all nighters which took place over twenty years ago. Keep the faith!!
