Book Description

Eleven year old Charlie is looking forward to a family holiday on the sunny south coast but the storm clouds soon gather when an ancient hill spills its secrets and Charlie, his new friend Polly and the mysterious Trost are catapulted into a world of age-old mystery and modern danger.
A fast paced adventure set in the whirl of the 1970s, Northern Sky is a story of bravery and friendship, greed and revenge, cold hearted killers and the power of magic.

More About the Author

The author John Ogden was born and bred in a small Durham village, in his youth John was lauded by the world's press (well The Northern Echo) and seemed all set for a life of rock-stardom; that is until he was tempted to the dark side of accountancy.

Although a Northerner at heart, he has spent more time in Hampshire than in his homeland; he is therefore very confused. Recently married, with two teenage children from his first marriage and numerous step grandchildren, he has spent many happy hours reading aloud and making up stories. As a lifelong Sunderland fan he has also spent longer than he cares to recall hoping for a happy ending.

After years of producing financial accounts he wanted to write something people might actually read. Northern Sky is his first book.

A gentle story of a young boy with an unexpected destiny, Charlie becomes a hero after finding a mysterious whistle. Beginning in the seaside areas of Hayling Island and Portsmouth on the South Coast Charlie soon becomes embroiled in an attempted coup of Britain. With unexpected allies from fantasy and myth our unassuming hero even gets to meet the Queen.

John Ogden tells the story by employing the richness of the English language to evoke vivid images and atmospheric scenes.

From its description of a relatively ordinary family holiday at the beginning the reader wouldn't ever anticipate the outcome.

A great read and well researched for the historical and local facts it contains.
