This is a fascinating account of the history and technology of lighthouses. It is well researched and referenced and it would be hard to find a more authoritative account. The only criticism would be with the sub-title. This book is called Northern Lights: The Age of Scottish Lighthouses. However, the book is much more than simply a history of lighthouses in Scottish waters and looks much further afield, taking in Egypt, New Zealand, India, Burma and numerous other places. All in all, this is essential reading and will, I am sure, become a standard reference work on the subject.
