northeast India 29 April 2011
Format:Paperback
a bit out of date once you get there ! an amazing part of India to travel but your probably better just buying a map as things change so frequently here.

I purchased this book as we planned a holida in Eastern India. This book was delivered just in time but proved to be a complete disappointment. Text, directions and guidance ae very poorly written. Maps are greyscale with place names in tiny fontsize. Difficult to read. I ended up with maps and gides printed from Google and various other websites.

Save yourselves the trouble and money. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

A handy guide if you are visiting just this region. 30 Nov 2007
By William S. Weir - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are going to just the areas included in this book, then it's a fine choice. Otherwise you might do better with a North India or an all India guidebook because there's not that much more detail here.

When I first saw this book advertised, I assumed that it specialized in what's normally considered the Northeast--Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram. But these areas only comprise 50 out of the 376 pages! Most of the text is given over to introduction, Orissa, West Bengal, and Sikkim. An interesting chapter called "Excursions" briefly covers nearby places such as Varanasi, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.

What does "Northeast India" mean? Misleading title. 1 Dec 2011
By Elizabeth Bullitt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book might be useful for someone going to the region the book covers (central-East India and Southern Nepal). Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell in advance exactly which portions of India and Nepal this book covers. I am going on a trip to Northeast India and Northern Nepal and so thought this book would be perfect, but there is almost no geographical overlap. The book does NOT cover Northeast India--the title is highly misleading.

Lonely Planet books are often excellent. One problem with their India series in general is that there are a great many Lonely Planet books that cover various parts of India and it can be difficult to figure out in advance which book is most appropriate. It would be very helpful if the book preview could allow one to see the geographical region covered by any particular book. At present, this feature does not seem to be available.

UNFORTUNATE & MISLEADING TITLE 1 Jan 2010
By Charles R. Ripplinger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought I was buying a travel guide for the Immediate Area around Delhi (Jalandhar, in particular).

Had the title reflected that "contents" included NEPAL,as well, I would have been able to discover my error.

I would strongly recommend you peruse this book at you local bookseller to determine its usefulness to you. (I have lately purchased Lonely Planet guides whose typefonts are almost totally illegible due to their size.)
