The potential for an alternative history is soiled by the very nation that fought from the beginning being relegated to an inconsequential nation. Sadly very few American authors are good enough,,,,,,, nay, decent enough to admit that the British commitment was 100 percent from the beginning.

Only one star I'm afraid I have read all Conroys books this one was total rubbish.
The author has always shown little regard to the citizens of Great Britain or "cowardly Brits" as we are shown to be in his novels.
He must enjoy the Brit pounds he gets but he will not be getting another Brit penny out of me

Why oh why does Conroy always have to ensure the guys in white hats win all the time. Not really alternate history when you bend the plot all the time to reinvent the original outcome!

Despite some other reviewer's this novel novel is not anti-British.
Truth is quite a few in power in the UK were cowards, sympathizers or outright traitors.
Many quite understandably didn't want another bloodbath like WW1, Chamberlain was simply unable to contemplate the evil of the Nazi regime,he was naive, not a bad or stupid person. Just out of his depth as he'd never dealt with such insanity as Nazi Germany. Very few folk then could appreciate how evil the Nazis were, easy for us in hindsight

Others though were making money from the Nazi warmachine or enjoyed it's ideology.
So it's quite possible the UK could have been forced into submission, added with the incredible arrogant stupidity of much of the Establishment that did in fact seriously hamper our military in many ways.

Conroy's novel are somewhat lightweight hokum, and that is NOT a bad thing! They are entertaining and based on plausible actions and events.
If I want ugly, depressing crap I can watch the news....
This one is not as good as some of his others, but still a good, enjoyable read :)
Really,I'd like more length and depth to his stories, now, but I have very much enjoyed them all!
