Product Description

Product Description

What you are about to read is an extraordinary story about the gold mines of North Molton. I invite you to travel with me and explore the mines where one hundred and fifty years ago it was the centre of extensive mining operations that employed hundreds of people.

On our journey we will meet incredible people whose parents and grand-parents were involved in the mines and who tell extraordinary stories of what happened there. Conspiracies, intrigue, fraud and gold fever - it is all here and more. But what about the gold? Was gold ever found at the mines or were the tales of nuggets and reports of gold discoveries all part of an elaborate scheme designed to entice would-be investors to part with their money on false hopes of rich rewards. And if the stories of gold are true, what about today? Can we still find gold there now? Join me on an adventure as we go in search of the fabled gold of North Molton and who knows what we shall discover together.

The FOREWORD is written by Peter Stucley, the youngest son of Sir Hugh Stucly and the Great grandson of George Wentworth Warwick Bampfylde, 4th Baron Poltimore (1882-1965).

Upon first reading my book he wrote and said, "You have done a really marvellous job! It was a fascinating read. Over the last 30 years or so I have gleaned various snippets of information from the family archives, but this is the first time (that I am aware of) where somebody has pulled everything together in such a detailed and concise manner. It is a mineralogical thriller!"

5.0 out of 5 stars GOLD AT NORTH MOLTON 27 Aug 2012

Very interesting book. I was involved with some of the work written about which brings back memories of working with the geologists. Have not seen the book advertised in North Molton !? and was surprised when I hound it on amazon but not in paper version. To obtain a copy I had to download the Kindle version onto my PC. Well done.

This interesting book gives a detailed account of past mining operations on Exmoor
in the North Molton area. The author also speculates on the possibility of future
operations to extract gold. Recommended.
