Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

In places, the strange Scottish duo known as North London Spiritualist Church vaguely remind one of the more accessible moments of Americana psychedelic gods Flaming Lips; other times (see Michelle Conway's sultry harmonies on "Gin Palace") they simply disconcert with their musical sweetness. On Electric Music, the vocals are distant, almost ethereal. The instrumentation on this spiritual, haunted album is often much more earthy. A toy drum machine picks out the grooves to "Junked Power"; samples of a deep gospel voice finish up the otherwise spooky single "Psychics F.O.", recorded at the old Cocteau Twins studio; vibes and a guest bridge vocal from dub king Bim Sherman colour "Baptised By The Piano King". Electric Music is one for all those who still miss the first High Llamas album. --Everett True

This album is an instant classic. Slow-moving country-ish music with electronic fringes......

By Jones.
Format:Audio CD
The most boring CD I have ever heard, and a warning against buying un-previewed cds indeed.
I was expecting, strangely, some electronic element to this production... there is none. There are also no spiritual elements in this cd, so why the incongruous title and band name? Regardless, Everett True seems to have mixed them up in his review above.

In relation to True's review, I wouldn't agree that the vocals are "distant, almost ethereal", I would say that they are weak and pitched too high for the backing tracks. I also disagree with this being described as a "spiritual, haunted album".

True compares EM to The High Llamas, who I'd never heard of but some wag on LastFM clarifies: "a pastische of The Beach Boys".

The sound of this cd can be summed up as a kind of washed out 'Steal my body home' from Beck's 1993 Mellow Gold, sans-innovation.
This brand of stoner-country-downbeat was perfected by Seluah on their exquisite debut cd three years later.
