4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, 23 Aug 2004
This review is from: North To Alaska [DVD] [1961] (DVD)
John Wayne at his best, playing a misunderstood character. Good fun about men mining for gold, and the troubles they encounter from other men, trying to stake a claim on what is already theres.
Enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Wayne a shining star, 29 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Although i am bias being a huge fan North to Alaska showcases John Wayne in one of his best performances. Along with McLintok and The Quiet Man the Duke provides us with quality entertainment that proves weterns are still running strong. A definite movie worth seeing its so funny you'll be falling of your chair. You'll love it so much you'll watch over and over with the whole family. The story tells of a very macho and proud man Sam McCort (wayne) heading to Seatle to collect his friends fiance only to bring back a french woman with an agenda: Marry Sam ! The very reluctant Sam finds himself fighting against what he wants and what he thinks he should have. Stewart Granger also stars making the kettle boil over with fun !

This review is from: North To Alaska [DVD] [1961] (DVD)
In 1960 John Wayne starred in this action/comedy film, set on the Alaska Gold Rush of the beginning of the XX century.
Acording to some biographers, Wayne accepted to do this film still on the production of "The Alamo", based only in the sugestive title of a scrip yet unwritten and the assurance that it would be directed by the efficient Henry Hathaway.
North to Alaska is an agreeable ligth comedy with good interpretations by Wayne and Stweart Granger and the interesting presences of young singer Fabian and the European beauty Cappucine.
This DVD is presented in 2.35/1 aspect ratio and the print is good enough presenting nice color. The sound was remastered to 4.0, wich allows us to kind of rediscover the classic title tune, a hit by Johnny Horton in 1960. Well worth the price !!!
