The book - published by Rizzoli - features very high quality image reproductions, as is typical with the publisher's publications. The book is by no-means 'simply' a gathering of 'Parky's' images featured in previous publications. The text that accompanies the featured images is exceedingly well-researched and features narratives and commentary of three basic periods of Norman Parkinson's popularity as a fashion photographer.
'Early years' features work from the late 1930s, Pre- and actual Swinging Sixties images where there is a notable shift to fashions being aimed at, and modelled by Young Women. Here of course, 'Park's' was there when it all happened with the Swinging Sixties happened - and the stunning images of Jean Shrimpton and Celia Hammond are particularly to the fore, from this era.
With the post-1970s period colour images emphasise the development of Norman's exceptional photography talents. A period that features a number of images of Jerry Hall for instance.
In short, this is a book of exceptional quality with a wonderful accompanying text by the author. Norman Parkinson was one of a few British photographers of the 'Golden Age of Fashion Photography'. His undoubted talents and his role in the development of fashion photography as a whole deserve greater exposure and celebration. This is a very worthwhile book if you have any interest in fashion photography or simply images that feature the changing fashions from the late 1930s onwards.
