Product Description

Product Description

Sir Norman Foster's architectural projects have transformed cityscapes, renewed vital transportation hubs and rejuvenated town centres. Ambitious and controversial, Foster succeeds in marrying a modern sensibility with a masterly treatment of the architecture of the past. His commissions include the reconstruction of the Reichstag in Berlin and the new Hong Kong international airport. This work showcases, with photographs and sketches, plans and models, Foster's far-reaching genius, which combines technological prowess and global-minded design philosophy. Produced in conjunction with Foster's office, this volume includes depiction of the Valencia Congress Center and the Great Court at the British Museum. Including a chronological survey of the architect's career, and essays on industrial architecture, deep-plan buildings, energy and urbanism, this is a tribute to a figure who continues to impact upon architecture and urban planning.

This book is an ample addition to any architecture library! It is almost an illustrated history, with some of the finest images of Foster's work. The first part of the book gives us an insight into how Foster's work is significant to its surroundings, how he originally established himself, and how he works today, with a feature on his UK headquarters of Riverside Three. We learn of how he began as a member of a group of four architects, including the great Richard Rogers. We are told of how Foster broke from this team to establish himself, which in my opinion made his career. Afterward the book moves onto the first project that Foster completed, as part of Team 4 Architects. Following this project are all of Foster's projects in chronological order. To accompany this there are endless amounts of images which, for a young architecture lover such as myself, are amazing. The book shows us how Foster's style has developed and the books information brings us right to the present day, finishing with his work on the Reichstag, and The Great Court. This book is well illustrated and written and gives an interesting account of Foster and his past.
